An interview with Harry Ludwig in Madison, Wis. conducted by Steve Kol man of the Historical Society staff on July 21, 1992. The interview focuses on Ludwig's experiences as a conscientious objector during World War II. He discusses his upbringing in a Jewish neighborhood of Chicago; the influence of Socialist thought on his beliefs and attitudes; the effect of his CO status on his family and on the Jewish community; his time in Civilian Public Service at a Maryland work camp and later, at a state mental hospital in Connecticut, and the other conscientious objectors he met at those jobs; and his feelings on the use of the atom bomb.
